National Cremation Society 2015 Winter Holiday Events

The holidays are almost here! While some look forward to shopping and participating in winter activities, others are finding simple ways to help the less fortunate among us. For many, ’tis the season to spend time with family and remember loved ones who have passed.

Toys for Tots Campaign

The National Cremation Society joins the annual Toys for Tots donation drive, with drop-off locations set up at various NCS offices including: Phoenix, AZ, Clearwater and North Fort Myers, FL, Tukwila, WA, Marietta, GA, Las Vegas, NV, and Bloomfield, MI.

Every year from October through December, the US Marine Corps Reserve opens its doors to communities who would like to make donations (money or toys), host local Toys for Tots events or help in the collection of new and unwrapped toys for less fortunate children.

Historically, the Marine Toys for Tots Program has distributed over 494 million toys to over 230 million children since it was established. The goal of the foundation is “to deliver, through a new toy at Christmas, a message of hope to less fortunate children that will assist them in becoming responsible, productive, patriotic citizens.”

In line with this goal, various National Cremation Society offices have begun collecting since November 1st and will still be open for drop-off donations until December 16th. If you would like to bring a toy for this campaign, please contact your local National Cremation Society office here.

NCS Atlanta: Dinner with Families

Some of us may be spending our holidays with the thought of our loved ones who have passed. Grieving over the loss of a beloved family member or friend should not dampen our holiday celebration.

At National Cremation Society, we believe it always helps when we’re surrounded by people who offer sympathy and assistance during a time of loss. On November 30th from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., the National Cremation Society office in Atlanta will be hosting a family dinner in honor of loved ones served or anyone who has lost a loved one this year. According to Dorsey Thomas, Location Manager, “It’s an opportunity for individuals to be around good people during the holidays.” The NCS Atlanta office is located at 1812 Powder Springs Road SW Suite 2111, Marietta, GA 30064. For more information on this family event, please call 770-429-2465.

Remembrance Gathering and Adopt-A-Family

The National Cremation Society in Bloomfield Hills, MI is hosting a Remembrance Gathering on December 9th from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m to honor and remember our loved ones. Coffee and desserts will be served. Families who will join will be able to take home a special ornament with their loved one’s name on it.

The NCS Bloomfield office is also helping out in the Toys for Tots campaign, so you may bring in, if you wish, a toy for a less fortunate child as a way of honoring your loved one.

Additionally, National Cremation Society is hosting an Adopt-A-Family event through the Community Housing Network in the Bloomfield area.  A wish list has been put together for families or individuals who are in need of basic necessities. “For many of them,” said Maryann McConnell, Service Manager, “the gifts given in this event will be the only ones they will receive during the holidays.”

Night of Reflections

In North Fort Myers, FL, the National Cremation Society is hosting the Night of Reflections Holiday Memorial Service in honor of loved ones who have passed away. It will be held on Tuesday, December 15 from 6 p.m. to 8.pm. Reflections Service starts at 7 p.m. To RSVP for this event, please call 239-995-1113 before December 11th. Each family who will attend will receive an ornament in honor of their loved one.
